Overview

Al Barq (lightning) delivers parcels for online shops to every governorate in Iraq, within 24 hours of pickup.

Delivery IQ is the app the company gives its merchants. Shops add orders, follow them to delivery, see what they are owed and talk to the company, instead of calling and sending spreadsheets on WhatsApp.

The challenge

  1. 01

Hundreds of thousands of orders in many states: registered, ready to ship, with the driver, delivered, replaced, partially returned, postponed or re-addressed. Merchants need all of it at a glance.

  2. 02

Money is the real product. Merchants care about what they are owed: delivery charges, collected amounts and which statements are paid.

  3. 03

Big shops create dozens of orders a day, so typing them one by one was not an option.

  4. 04

The app shows financial data, so sessions, devices and crashes must be handled carefully.

Highlights

Orders

  • Create orders manually, normal or replacement delivery, or import them from Excel
  • Search by receipt number, name or phone, and filter by store, city, branch, status and date
  • Order details with a tracking timeline and call or WhatsApp contacts for customer, merchant and driver
  • Order codes with QR and barcode generation and scanning

Money and reports

  • Home KPIs: today's total, counts per status and net amount
  • Settlement statements per store: cost, Baghdad vs. other cities, paid or unpaid, and receipt confirmation
  • Charts per status and per month, invoices and PDF export

Business tools

  • Multi-store and branch support, with staff accounts for a merchant
  • In-app chat with the company and support tickets
  • Notifications centre with FCM push
  • Biometric sign-in, light and dark themes, Arabic-first RTL UI

Signature feature

The order lifecycle, end to end

  • Create: a merchant fills a form, or uploads an Excel template that is parsed on the device, matched to delivery regions, previewed and submitted as a batch.
  • Follow: each order moves through the company's statuses, with a counter per status on the dashboard and a history timeline per order.
  • Live updates: a Socket.IO connection receives newUpdate and newMessage events, so counters and chats refresh the moment the company updates an order.
  • Settle: delivered orders roll up into settlement statements, and the merchant confirms receipt in the app.

Engineering notes

  1. 01

    Silent token refresh

A Dio interceptor catches 401, calls the refresh endpoint, saves the new access token and retries the original request, so users are never kicked out mid-task.

  2. 02

    Device trust check

On start-up the app asks Android for a Play Integrity verdict through a platform channel, falling back to a root check and failing safe.

  3. 03

    Real-time without polling

One socket manager handles chatMessages, newMessage and newUpdate events and feeds them into the cubits, keeping chat and order counters current.

  4. 04

    Bulk orders from Excel

The app parses a template with Arabic headers on the device, maps columns by header name rather than position, matches each area to the server's delivery regions and flags unknown rows before submitting.

  5. 05

    Every request is measurable

API calls carry an event name logged to Firebase Analytics, and Sentry wraps the app and the Dio client, so errors arrive with the request that caused them.

  6. 06

    Built-in analytics screens

An internal dashboard tab shows Crashlytics and Performance views, helping the team watch stability release by release.
